  Singing a concert in Grinnell, IA and unexpectedly seeing one of my former chorines from the Twin Cities Gay Men’s Chorus in the audience with his mother, in his hometown. It was a special evening, and he later reflected, “In my home town, I heard gay men sing from their heart. In the heart of the church, where my life began, a place I had to escape in order to find myself, I heard a former singer from my chosen family, sing for my family of origin, with his new brothers from Des Moines.”
